After talking so much of the former Yugoslavia through its stamps, this time I decided to use an Italian stamp, for tell the city of Rijeka, or River. This famous city, now Croatia, was part of the Hungarian kingdom first and then the Italian one.
At the end of World War I, on the table of winners, Italy claimed to extend its borders to the eastern land, but the Italian claims were heard.
was a coup de D'Annunzio, who started in 1919 by Ronchi in the head about 25oo "legionnaires" in Italian hands to drop this territory, where our language was that spoken by the majority of population.
the poet established the regency of the Italian carnaro, but already in 1920 the Italian army intervened with force to "clear out" illegal immigrants by D'Annunzio and free to form the river in 1924 that will lead to the definitive annexation of the city the kingdom of Italy.
At the end of WWII, the Fiume escaped almost all of Italian origin, as now persecuted minority in the new Tito's Yugoslavia. With the return
Rijeka River becomes the Yugoslav border and in the 90's, the outbreak of civil war, the city will become part of the Croatian state.
